Important Notes

Please read:

• We DO NOT honor requests for coaching or carpooling (siblings living in the same home are the exception).    If the siblings are also playing for Mill Creek Middle, they will not be allowed to be on the same team.
• If you have a balance on your account because you failed to fulfill volunteer requirements from another sport, your child WILL NOT be placed on a team until the balance is paid. 

A note from the director:

We are always looking for parents to join the basketball committee.   Your involvement can be minimal or full on, but either way, we need the help.   If you are interested in getting involved, please reach out to Jessica.cockman@gmail.com.  We are actively recruiting new coaches.  If you are interested but still on the fence, please reach out and we can chat about options for getting you involved.  Looking

Volunteer Requirements
We can't do it without you! Due to the complexity and time to run a sport the size of basketball, we will be requiring each family to provide two hours of volunteer time per player. If this is not a possibility, you can pay a $60 fee to opt out. This fee will be used to pay someone to do the work a volunteer would normally do. 

Registration Fee:  $115/PLAYER

nO REFUNDS Will be provided.

Gate Fees

To pay for use of rented facilities, we charge a gate fee at every home basketball game. The cost is usually $1 for students, $3 for adults.  Other facilities charge a fee as well. 

Evaluations

Evaluations will be held toward the end of November (dates TBD) with practices starting as soon as we wrap up the week of evaluations.  The evaluation schedule will be emailed out to all registered basketball players by November 5th. Evaluations are mandatory so if your player is unable to attend, please email basketball@sfoptimist.org to make other arrangements.  If you don't receive an email by November 6th, please check your spam folder and/or email us.

If your player drops out or decides not to play, email the program immediately so we can remove your player from our system.  Please note, we do not offer refunds or take requests for coaches/players to stick together (siblings are an exception).  

season details

During December, teams will practice one weeknight and on Saturdays: December 7, 14 and 21.  

Games will begin after the new year and teams will only practice 1x per week.  Most teams will have a weekend game but there may be one or two weekday games over the course of the season.

Some teams ages 7 and up will need to travel and play games at other Optimist Parks.  The more teams we have within an age group, the higher our chances to keep those games home (at SFO).

The season is set to wrap up with a tournament starting Feb 24th - March 1st.

Age Groups

Due to limited gym space, we can only accommodate 168 players.  At the basketball director's discretion, these numbers may be adjusted to accommodate divisions that are experiencing rapid registrations.   DO NOT HESITATE IN REGISTERING. SLOTS WILL FILL QUICKLY. 

K - 1st Grade (co-ed): 32 players

Boys

• 2nd - 3rd grade: 24 players FULL - REGISTER FOR WAITLIST:  LINK
• 4th - 5th grade: 32 players  We currently have 19 players so we have closed registrations and started a wait list.  We need 2 more to open up a 3rd team.   Please register on the wait list to be included in that option.  The sooner we get 2 players, the sooner we can move your player over to a registered spot.  Please help up spread the word.
• 6th - 8th grade: 32 players
  
  Girls
• 2nd - 3rd grade: 16 players
